Class Activity
Listen to the following recordings:
These pieces of music have been praised for having special qualities that change the way people are feeling. How can you describe these qualities using musical terminology?
Group Activity
In groups of 3 or 4 use google to research
- Orfeus and his Magic Lute.
- Some ancient stories about music in your home country. Share your top two stories and some recordings with your class mates.
- Share the top two stories you find with the class.
Assessment Task 6.
Consider the following question: what musical elements have the most powerful effect over humans and non-human animals?
The Great Year 8 Debate: Topic
Rhythm is more important than Melody when it comes to influencing the emotions of humans.
- Get into teams of 3 or 4.
- The teacher will tell you if you are the Affirmative or the Negative. You should aim to speak for no more than 2 minutes. The time keeper will knock once at 1 minute, and twice at 2 minutes.
- You must use Music terminology. Aim to come up with 3 main ideas to support your argument.
- You may play an excerpt of music, or refer to music. The clock may stop for this to occur.
