Music Curriculum
"Music is a code in which the deepest secrets of humanity are written: this heady thought assured musical studies their central place in ancient, medieval and renaissance thought."
-- Nicholas Cook, A Guide to Music Analysis, Oxford University Press, 2009. p1.
Academic Games & Music Technology
Students engage in Music History and Music Theory tasks through cooperative academic games. In 2019 we are introducing a BYO device (Tablet/Laptop) policy which is very exciting and will allow us to use more twenty-first century Music Technology in our classroom.
Practical Music Making
Students learn to sing and play classroom instruments like Ukulele, Guitar, Bass, Piano, Percussion and Marimba during music classes. Any student who is having lessons on a specialist instrument, can bring this to class. Students rehearse and perform as a class band and in small groups and are encouraged to improvise on patterns and create arrangements of songs they know and love.

Community Choir Performance: Rehearsals and Concerts
Singing is a fantastic part of who we are as humans! All throughout history, and all around the world, people come together to sing. Singing regularly stimulates the parts of the brain responsible for happiness and well being, and also builds neurological pathways that allow for learning to take place. Singing in a choir the human equivalent to putting fertilizer on the garden and acts as an energy source and nutrition source for the developing young person. Vietnam also has a very rich vocal tradition which goes back thousands of years. As such, singing is at the core of our music curriculum at TH School both in the classroom and in our ECA programs and concerts. Madame TH actually wrote our school song, and the students all sing it in English or Vietnamese at major events throughout the year.

Concert Class 1, 2019 - Clips
Approximately twice per semester students have opportunity to perform for their classmates as concert practice. This event is called concert class. Students have free choice to use any of the instruments or techniques they have learnt during the semester. They may develop their knowledge with partners of their choice to ultimately prepare a performance.
Concert Class is run semi-formally. All members of the class are expected to participate as audience members and as performers. A master of ceremonies is elected from within the class to introduce each act, and a stage manager is appointed to ensure that the stage is set for each performance.
Creative Opportunities
Students engage in unique and creative music making experiences at TH School.
Jaydn (centre right) made a pumpkin drum and Jiwoo (far right) built cucumber and carrot trumpet and added a hose pipe to get a deeper sound for our Vegetable Orchestra 2019.
Listening to Live Music
Listening to Live Music is a vital part of any musical education. Please aim to attend 5 concerts per semester.
