Compose a melody using 5/4 as your time signature

• Listen to Take Five composed by Paul Desmond, the saxophonist in the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Feel the pulse of 5/4 time.
• Check your time signature is located in the right position (at the beginning of your piece) when notating your music with NoteFlight.
• Think about: where the strong beat falls and how this should help drive the rhythm.

Individually or in pairs

1. compose a short melody in 5/4 time
2. Make your melody 1 or 2 bars in length and repeat it multiple times.
